Share Your Research

You’ve finished your research (or almost)—now what? The Office of Undergraduate Research can help you get your research out there.

Present Your Research

We sponsor the Undergraduate Research Symposium in the fall and spring, giving students the opportunity to showcase their research in a supportive, multi-disciplinary setting. If you are interested in presenting your work at a conference in your discipline, you may apply for funding with a Conference Travel Award. Whenever you need help condensing your research into an abstract, an article or a poster, the OUR can help.

Publish Your Research

As part of its mission to present undergraduate research to a wider audience, the Office of Undergraduate Research encourages and facilitates the publication of student research. For nearly twenty years, the OUR published two journals:

  • Washington University Undergraduate Research Digest (WUURD)
WUURD, a scholarly journal published annually, comprised of peer-reviewed, full-length student feature articles alongside a compilation of student research abstracts from the most recent Undergraduate Research Symposia. Find past editions here
  • Washington University Senior Honors Thesis Abstracts (WUSHTA)
WUSHTA, published annually each spring, highlights the work of graduating seniors receiving academic honors for their work, including honors theses and capstone research projects. Find past editions here.

Following its relaunch in Fall 2022, the OUR is collaborating with campus partners to establish a new vision for supporting undergraduate research, including research dissemination strategies.

Undergraduate Research Symposia

Twice yearly the Office of Undergraduate Research sponsors the Undergraduate Research Symposium. It is a forum for students to present their research findings and creative outputs and a celebration of the diversity of inquiry that takes place at WashU. We encourage students in all academic departments, programs and schools to present their original research and creative projects. The event has included a keynote address, selected student talks, a poster session, and performances and demonstrations of projects.

For students who are interested in getting started in research, the symposium is a great opportunity to learn about the process from your peers. Meet researchers in your area of interest to find out about resources and opportunities. Everyone is welcome to attend the symposia!

Upcoming Symposia

The next OUR symposium will take place during Parent & Family Weekend, from 10AM - 2PM on Friday, October 27, 2023. Visit the Fall 2023 Symposium webpage for more details about registration and attendance!

Many other presenting opportunities exist outside the walls of WashU. Here is a sample of some of the resources available to help you find and prepare for a conference presentation:

Periodically the OUR receives notices for undergraduate conferences, symposia, and other opportunities for students to present their work. We will post those notices here:
