Gap-Year PreHealth Opportunity as Clinical Research Coordinator for Hotchkiss Lab

Dr. Richard Hotchkiss’ Lab in the Department of Anesthesiology at WashU School of Medicine is seeking graduating PreHealth students to serve as a Clinical Research Coordinator for studies on sepsis and critical illness. This position features both patient-facing roles and clinical research opportunities, from consenting patients and gaining familiarity with their data in EPIC to assisting with data curation and manuscript development for multi-center clinical trials. We are seeking students interested in gaining publications and becoming co-authors on upcoming research papers. The Hotchkiss lab works on new therapeutic approaches to sepsis, from assessing the efficacy of various immunotherapies on adaptive immunity to working with industry partners for producing specialized assays that uniquely assess the immune dynamics of each patient across time.

The Hotchkiss Lab has mentored PreMed students on their path to medical school for over 25 years. We are specifically looking for students interested in immersing themselves within the learning opportunities we make available, both in association to both innovative research and exposure to WashU Med’s network. These include cultivating the background knowledge, key skills, and collaboration with various medical professionals that would position them for success within medicine.

We are also looking for candidates with strong interpersonal skills and motivation to draw from our welcoming environment on their pre-professional journey. Please reach out with a CV and Resume to Dr. Richard Hotchkiss at richardshotchkiss@wustl.edu to express your interest for this role.
