Research Opportunity in Pneumonia/Lung Injury for Students Interested in Biomedical Research

A research position is available in the Kulkarni Lab in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine on the WashU Medical Center campus.

The Kulkarni Lab works with human tissues, mouse models and also cell culture systems. Those interested in learning new techniques, problem-solving, and working with new technology are encouraged to apply. The expected time commitment is a minimum of two half-days per week (approximately 10 hours/week). This is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in immersing themselves in biomedical research (primarily wet-lab) with the plan of applying to medical school or graduate school and for someone looking for a long-term position that spans over semesters and into summer; and/or if you are interested in taking a gap year for research after your undergraduate degree. Lab work can be done for credit, as a part of BIO200/500 or other programs (e.g., BioSURF, ASPIRE), or can be an hourly-paid position.

Interested applicants should email Hrish Kulkarni, MD, MSCI, at and include the following:

  • A CV
  • A brief statement about why you are interested in working in our laboratory
  • Any prior research experience?
  • What is the period of time you can commit to during the semesters in the context of your other commitments?
  • Do you plan to work in the lab over summer 2022?

All applications will be considered. Students will be encouraged to present their work at the undergraduate research symposium and apply for opportunities that align with their overall goals.
