Interviewing for Life Sciences PhD Programs

Discussion for students actively interviewing or planning ahead for life science PhD programs

In this session, presented by members of the AAMC Group on Research, Education, and Training (GREAT) Outreach Committee, participants will learn about, discuss and engage in topics related to interviewing for life sciences doctoral programs. The session will begin with a short presentation outlining tips for successfully navigating the graduate school interviews, including the similarities and differences between virtual and in-person interviews.

Participants will then break out in smaller groups with committee members to engage in mock interviews to answer potential questions they should anticipate, aspects of their professional background they should aim to present, and strategies to address various concerns or highlights of their academic careers. This discussion will include advice on presenting oneself professionally as an interviewee.

Students who are actively interviewing for life cycle doctoral programs are strongly encouraged to attend, but the session will also be useful for those planning ahead for applications next year.
